Local Governing Body - Waltham Holy Cross Primary Academy

 

Wendy Thomas – Chair of Governors

 

Wendy has worked in primary, secondary and special schools for thirty seven years. She has a Masters’ Degree in Education and holds an NPQH. She has worked as an adviser in three Local Authorities including holding the post of Senior Adviser. She is also an accredited SIP for primary and special schools and was an accredited Ofsted Inspector. An experienced professional Wendy has worked in a wide range of schools in a variety of settings including both advantaged and disadvantaged communities. She was the Headteacher of Churchfields Junior School for eight years and as the head took the school from Good to Outstanding. She has been the Primary Representative for The London Mayor’s Music Group, a Music Champion for London Schools and recently chaired an East London music hub.

 

James Kenyon- Headteacher, Waltham Holy Cross Academy - Ex-officio by virtue of office as Headteacher/Principal

 

James is passionate about school improvement and achieving exceptional outcomes for children. In 2006, he was part of the leadership team that led Hillyfield Primary School in Waltham Forest to an ‘outstanding’ Ofsted judgement. Since then, he has completed the National Professional Qualification for Headship and has led two schools to strong Ofsted outcomes, achieving good or outstanding judgements in all categories. In 2015, James was praised by Ofsted for his outstanding leadership in ‘transforming’ Chapel End Junior Academy in Waltham Forest from being a school ‘at a low ebb in Special Measures’ into a ‘thriving, joyful centre of learning.’

 

As well as his work as a headteacher, James has also been successful in his role as a leadership partner for REAch2 Academy Trust - supporting other schools in achieving rapid and sustained improvements. Prior to this he was a governor at NET Academies in Harlow for two years and has a good understanding of NET Academies Trust and our schools.

 

James Hollinsley – Head of School, Longwood Primary Academy and Nursery

 

James Hollinsley is the head teacher of a two form primary academy that has received both regional and national awards for mental health and wellbeing.

 

He is a qualified SENCO, holds the national qualification for School Inspectors (NPQSI) and an MA in Specific Learning Difficulties and Special Educational Needs. James has written pieces and collaborated with groups such as YoungMinds to develop ideas for campaign strategy and best practice in schools. He was previously Lead Professional for SEND in a London borough and is also a school governor. He has 20 years’ experience in teaching and leadership in both mainstream primary and special secondary sectors. Longwood Primary Academy, formally in Special Measures, was graded as good with outstanding leadership and management, along with Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare, in less than three years of opening.

 

Longwood is a multi-award winning school when it comes to the wellbeing of pupils and staff (National TES Employer of the Year 2018, National Place2Be Primary Community 2019, National Healthy School of the Year (Finalists 2018 and 2019), Happiest School in UK (Listed in top 4 in 2019).

 

Jayshree Tailor – Parent Governor

 

Prior to having her children, Jayshree was a flagship store manager for many years; in her role she has been accountable for the store performance, budgets, staffing recruitment retention training and the development of staff. Jayshree also worked with central senior leadership on strategic planning as well as developing the company vision to shape and progress the business.

 

As a parent governor Jayshree would like to be actively involved in shaping the future of the school and contributing to the community.

 

Catherine Kent – Parent Governor

 

Catherine is a qualified teacher within an Autism specific school in Enfield; as such she has an extensive knowledge of autism, EHCP’s and behaviour management. At her current teaching role she is responsible for the performance management of two staff and has to coordinate support staff as well as lead a team. Catherine has experience teaching across the whole primary range from Nursery to Year 6.

 

Catherine has passion for education and ensuring that children’s education meets their needs cognitively, socially and emotionally.

 

Laura Childs – NET Academies Trust Appointed Governor

 

Laura is a HR Business Partner for a prestigious city law firm, Macfarlanes LLP.  With a wealth of experience in her 17 year career Laura deals in; change management, performance and development management, coaching and mentoring. Laura manages projects and chairs numerous meetings with key stakeholders as well as employees. 

 

Laura runs CSR projects and deals with recruitment selection and interviews. As a local resident in Waltham Abbey she is looking to make a positive impact in the community and education in local schools.

 

Blessing Jegede – NET Academies Trust Governor

 

Blessing is a resident of the local community, a consultant and a psychology graduate from University of Bedfordshire. Blessing believes in giving back to her community and supporting children’s’ education. Blessing has previous worked as a school governor.

 

Jo Coton - Chief Executive Officer for NET Academies Trust.

 

As a qualified primary teacher Jo has over 20 years’ experience in education and has held many positions of responsibility and leadership within schools, Jo has particular expertise in English, teaching and learning, safeguarding and leadership and management; she has led school improvement work both locally and nationally. Jo holds the professional qualification for school inspectors and the NPQH.
 

With a proven track record of effective and rapid school improvement, Jo has a breadth of leadership and strategic experience across the primary phase, working in London schools for over 20 years. Jo joined NET Academies in 2015 and became Chief Executive in November 2017. The achievements in Essex have been recognised by Ofsted following inspections, and three of the Harlow-based academies are now rated Good or Outstanding across all criteria. Inspectors highlighted leadership and management as outstanding and personal development, behaviour and welfare as particular strengths.
